Famille Guerin Beaujolais Blanc, 2024, 750ml

Description

The second vintage of Elisa's white Beaujolais. 100% Chardonnay from two organic parcels of 30 year-old vines in the very north of the region, close to Lancié. Being just a stone's throw from Burgundy there is a long history of cultivating Chardonnay here and the soils differ from those over which the Gamay is grown in the nearby crus. The ground is dotted with white pebbles, born from the rocky soils of chalk and clay beneath them, with a smaller percentage of limestone, giving the wine some good flesh, robust structure and minerality.

Aromatically the wine has some detailed aromas of wild herbs and flowers, with golden chamomile notes, nectarine and pear drops. Honeyed and rich on the palate, with long, clean acids. There is almond among the citrus and orchard fruits, rounding out with some creaminess and subtle anise bitters in the finish. An accomplished, classical number from Elisa that flirts with something Burgundian.

After a cold maceration over 24 hours, the grapes were then direct-pressed into old Burgundy barrels to ferment. Half the wine is then left on lees in the wood and the other half racked and transferred to fibreglass cuve to rest for 8 months before bottling.
